Welcome to Worsley, the birthplace of the English canal system.

In this site you will find details of Worsley's role in English industrial history, particularly information about the construction of the Bridgewater canal and the three famous people who made it all possible - the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater and his two assistants, James Brindley and John Gilbert.

As well as the historical content, you will find lots of information about the Worsley of today, such as photographs of the village, walks in the village and nearby woods, and information about where to eat, drink and stay, both in Worsley itself and other places nearby. Links to other attractions are also included, such as the Lowry art centre, Trafford shopping and entertainment centre, the cities of Salford and Manchester, and towns such as Bolton.
